Roccabox March 2021 Tried and Tested

Good morning friends,

Late last week I received my March Roccabox ‘Birthday Edition’

The box arrived in its traditional pick packaging, I was expecting something a little more colourful, shimmery or celebratory as it was the birthday edition, but no matter, it was jam packed with goodies!

L’Occitane – Almond Milk Concentrate received 50ml RRP £12.50 (Full size 200ml RRP £42)
You know I love a mini…
I have a face and body cream on the go already, so have used this smoothing and firming cream on my hands. I can’t say that my skin has felt firmer after 4 days, but they have certainly been soft. This moisturizer is cruelty free, non greasy, and soaks in well.
I have a little eczema on my hand that is quite sensitive, but the cream was kind to my skin and didn’t leave any redness or itchiness.

Monuskin Professional Skincare – Illuminating Primer SPF15 Full sized £36
I do my best to remember to apply suncream daily, but like most, can often forget.
This SPF Primer is rather thick, but that’s a positive, one pump is enough for your whole face, and soaks in well. I would say £36 for a low SPF Primer is an insane amount to pay. My make up sat well for the day, however I wouldn’t say it’s worth the money as you could easily buy a similar product for half the price.

Anatomicals – Mint Hand Sanitizer & Mint Hand Cream RRP £5
Well it’s part of our day to day, so why not?
These slender tubes are perfect handbag or even pocket sized. They thankfully don’t smell like hand sanitizer, more so the dentist, which is quite a a nice scent in my opinion. Clean, sweet and fresh.

BeautyPro Hair Therapy Deep Conditioning Hair Mask RRP £5.95
This hair mask is to be ‘worn’, after hair is shampooed, rinsed and lightly patted. Twisting wet hair into a conditioning bag is alot more awkward than I expected. The bag stayed on my hair for a full 30 seconds, I retwisted, applied and secured with a hair tie.

After 20 minutes I rinsed my hair, and man, my locks feel Luscious!
The mask may be a little fiddly and heavily scented, but I’d definitely recommend this.

Marc Jacobs Beauty – Velvet Noir Mascara Deluxe sample size RRP £13.80 (Full size RRP £24)
This deluxe mini is a good size, with my favourite type of brush, big and fluffy. One coat divided and thickened my lashes well, with no smudging or flakiness through out the day.
A little on the pricey side bit definitely a decent mascara.

Bonus Product – ISOCLEAN RRP £1
I’ve run out of my make up remover, so this one was a nice treat. Not too much to say about this product, it did have a strong hair spray scent, but cleaned the brushes well, and thankfully didn’t leave a scent on them once rinsed.

Overall I loved this month’s box, practical but pampering with a little bit of everything.

What do you think of this month’s box, are there any products you’d like to try?

Make up Declutter, clean and organise

Good afternoon friends, and Happy New Year!

This morning I decided to declutter and clean out my make up drawers.
Last year I wore hardly any make up, and when I did was drawn towards the same couple of palettes.
I love watching these videos on YouTube, and thought no time like the present.

I bought my make up drawers about 4 or so years ago from Amazon for around £40

6 tier/5 drawer clear make up drawers (Kardashian inspired, let’s not front), are easy to clean, store, and came with 3 sets of clear sturdy drawer dividers.

Link to similar drawers below

Cosmetic Organiser Drawers

From the bottom to the top, each drawer I’ve emptied out, wiped down, and repacked getting rid of any out of date, dried out, or products that have hardly or will never use, with a before and after photo.

1st drawer – Eyeshadow palettes

2nd Drawer – Foundation/concealer/cheek tint/highlighter palettes/bronzers/blushers

3rd drawer – Liquid matte lips and lip pencils

4th drawer Lipsticks

5th drawer Lipglosses/eyeliners/mascaras

Top Tray – Setting powders/beauty sponges/lip balms/lip scrubs/liquid highlighters

For the final drawer, I rearranged, wiped down but only got rid of 2 setting powders and added a few beauty sponges that I didn’t have room for.

All together I got rid of –
3 eye shadow palettes (one out of the picture as smashed)
3 highlighter palette
2 setting powders
7 lipsticks
5 matte Liquid lip
10 lip glosses
1 primer
1 liquid highlighter
3 eye liners
1 lip liner
7 single eyeshadows
1 single blush

I feel better knowing I’m using make up that won’t harm my skin or take up unnecassary space on my desk. (Even if I said goodbye to some of my favourite discontinued NYX lipsticks)

Have you had a declutter this New Year? If so, what did you clean out?

Blogmas 2020, Make up Looks

Blogmas – Festive Red Eye look

Good afternoon friends,

Last week my friend Katie and I decided to glam up and head out for a dinner date, just the two of us (pre tier 3)

When I’m with Katie, she gives me the confidence to be a little more daring and try the styles I want to, but usually stay safe

We had planned to go to a new Italian restaurant, and I thought a puffy sleeved, silk style, high neck patterned shirt… Completely out of my comfort zone, why not throw a red eye look to go with it?

As I’ve said before, a pink/red eye look can be mistaken for a eye infection if you’re not careful enough – and hopefully this isn’t what I look like!

A soft but bright festive eye, enough to be daring, but comfortable.

The StylLondon Devil Velvet touch pallett has an incredible formular. Easy to work with, pigmented, long lasting, and the colours are striking.

I’m not a massive fan of highlighters, but this one gave me that extra glow

I was tempted to go red on red, with a deep wine red lip, but opted for a classic nude lip with NYX Sandstorm, topped with Primark’s ‘Latte’ lipstick.

Next time I think I may incorporate more of the deep brown tone to give a smokier look, why not be a little daring?

Blogmas – The Body Shop Sumptuous cleansing butter review

Good evening friends,

I have been trying to cut down on disposable items such a make up wipes.

Although I do use a make up remover with my bamboo reusable pads, depending on the make up, sometimes cotton pads and make up wipes are needed.

Last month I bought a new make up remover after it being recommended by a friend.

The Body Shop Camomile range offers products that are gentle to sensitive skin.

This Vegan and cruelty free balm comes in a 90ml tin for £11. That may seem expensive, but the tub is such a good shape and size, you can swipe every last bit without there being any waste.

I thought best to demonstrate on a full face of make up.

‘Apply to a dry face, and massage into the skin, then remove with a warm wet flannel’

I used too much balm, as a little goes a long way. The balm easily removed my mascara, I gently rubbed a little balm on my lashes, and wiped away.

The balm has a light fresh scent and left my skin feeling soft, smooth and refreshed. I was skeptical and didn’t think a balm would remove make up, especially mascara, but it worked wonders.

This is a perfect gift for someone who is a make up lover, it may not seem like the most obvious or exciting gift, but this is a new staple for my skin routine, and wish I’d been introduced to this earlier.

What do you think of the balm, and have you used one before?

Blogmas – W7 Advent Calender – Tried and tested Make up review

Good evening friends,

A few days ago I posted the contents of the W7 Advent Calender.

The calender contained a variety of shades of lip and eye products, which I created 3 seasonal looks with.

Apart from foundation, concealer and an eyebrow pencil, all other products were taken from the calender.

To create my 3 looks, I used the items below –

  • Mini Big Lash Mascara (Black)
  • Mega Matte Lip Liner Red, Pink
  • King Kohl Eyeliner Black, Brown and Blue
  • Mini Mega Matte
  • Mini Glowcomotion Highlighter
  • Mini Honolulu Bronzer
  • Mini Cheeky Flusher
  • Mini Banana Dreams
  • Mini Beam Me Up Illuminator
  • Loose Glitter Pigment Pots Super Silver, Gilded Gold and Pretty Pink

First look – Gold glitter, nude lips and a navy eye liner.

This is a quick and easy, subtle soft glam look for the season

Second look – Pink glitter, pink lips, cheeky fluster blush.

A strong but pretty pink look, a little different for Christmas. Pinks are normally saved for spring/summer, but I love the thought of a warm pink look at winter.

Look three – Classic Christmas look, silver glitter, red lips and black liner.

This is the most striking, and and common Christmas make up. I can’t say I was massively keen on the thought of silver glitter eyes, but once I added the red lip, I loved it!

To my surprise, I think the silver and red look may be my favourite.

I was impressed with all of the products used, apart from the eye liners.

For each look I used a different eye liner, but they didn’t show up well, and were hard, without being able to easily smudge.

I was unsure if the glitter was intended for the eyes, could possibly be used for your nails? It doesn’t specify what to use them for and if you should or shouldn’t put these on your eyes or skin, but I had tested on my hand and there was no irritation.

I dabbed a bit of the the ‘bean me up illuminator’ on my eye lids before applying the glitter to give a bit of tac.

I love the end result, but there was so much fall out…Glitter everywhere! All over my face, body, clothes, hair, desk and carpet.

It’s to be expected at Christmas I guess?

Which was your favourite look?

Blogmas – Next Advent calender, tried and tested make up review

Good evening friends,

Today I tried out a few of the contents from my Next Beauty Advent calender.

The items I used

  • 1x pink lipsick
  • 1x pink lipgloss
  • 1x black full size Nx eyeshadow quad
  • 1x full size Nx bronzer
  • 1x eyeshadow brush
  • 1x lip balm
  • 1x full size Nx eyeshadow quad
  • 1x full size Nx bronzer
  • 1x eyeshadow brush
  • 1x lip balm
  • 1x lip scrub
  • 1x 30ml face moisturiser

From the eyeshadow quad, 2 shimmery gold shades, as always, caught my eye first. I thought I’d go for a different look and play around with a pink and purple eyeshadows.

I never sway towards a pink/purple make up look; 1 I love a black/brown/gold smokey eye (all day everyday), and 2, I always think if a purple eye isn’t done properly, you risk the chance of looking as though you’ve gotten a bruised eye.

I used the face moisturizer as a primer, it’s worked well. It is thinner and more of a lotion than a moisturizer, but either way I was happy with it, and my make up glided on well after.

The lip scrub was a good consistency, to most people’s taste I expect, although I do prefer mine to be a little grittier to really work the lips.

The lip balm was pretty standard, but a nice application, and non greasy.

The shimmery lipstick was soft and sheer, whilst the gloss was thick and bright giving it that pow, without being sticky or over the top.

The mascara was pretty standard but decent. I gave my lashes two coats as I normally would and was happy with the outcome.

The Highlight is striking in the pan, but doesn’t show overly well on the skin. I think this is more so down to my lack of skills with highlighter, I’m not 100% the exact place to put it and how heavy handed. It would however look incredible as a eyeshadow.

Over all I was extremely happy with the products, especially where you have almost a full face of make up

Blogmas – Superdrug Black Friday Haul

Good evening friends,

The week leading up to Black Friday, I received dozens of emails, pop ups and Instagram posts with deals. I couldn’t avoid it.

I had no intention to spend, I was staying strong. Then the thought crept in, I could buy now, and use in the future?

A few months ago I decided to have a spend free month, that didn’t go as plan, instead, I’ve decided to have a No spend 2021 (upcoming blog to explain), and to, where possible use only cruelty free products.

In order to top up on the basics and not get carried away, I looked through my make up drawers to check what products I was low on/what is due to expire in the next couple of months, and made a list

Here’s what I bought –

Superdrug Studio London Natural Eyeshadow Palette
Original Price: £6.00/Sale price: £3.00

Perfect shade 12 pan palette for all seasons, night and day.

Collection Lasting Colour Lipstick

Rose Wood 21, Original Price: £2.39/Sale price £1.66

I was originally suckered in my the name, any PLL fans here? But the shade is just beautiful, creamy and long lasting.

B. Flawless Matte Foundation W4 & N4
Original Price: £2.50 each/ Sale price £1.73 each

I purchased these in 2 shades as I’m a little lighter in the winter months, and for that price, why not take your pick.

e.l.f. Expert Liquid Liner Jet Black
Original Price: £3.00/sale price £2.08

I haven’t tried this liquid liner before, but the reviews were fantastic, and is one of the most inexpensive liquid liners I’ve seen.

Revolution Conceal and Define Concealer Original Price: £3.99/ sale price £2.76

I’ve never seen such a big dofer applicator for a concealer, this will give much better coverage and less waste as one or two swoops will do the job.

Revolution Pro Microblading Precision Eyebrow Pencil Choc Original Price £3.99 /Sale price £2.76

I haven’t tried the Revolution brow pencil before, but it’s less than half the price of my normal eyebrow pencil, and almost the same shade.

Revolution Darling 122 & Heart race 113 Crème Lip & Hustle 119 Crème Lip
Original Price: £3.20 each/Sale price £2.22 each

I’m a sucker for nude and pink shades, who isn’t? All 3 are beautiful, but Hustle is a great show for NYX Abu Dhabi.

Superdrug’s own brand products are now proudly cruelty free.

I did find some absolutly great deals with other brands, but whilst googling if they were cruelty free, the animal testing pictures that popped up, broke my heart and I couldn’t bring myself to pick up a bargain for the expense of an animal.

Subtotal exc. savings£30.97
Promotional Savings- £8.59
Total inc. savings & redemptions £22.38

1×12 pan eyeshadow palette
1xEye brow pencil
1xLiquid liner
2xFoundations
1xConcealer
1xLip stick
3xLip cremes

Almost a full face of make up for under £23, not bad going at all.

What did you buy in the Black Friday sales?

Blogmas – Next Advent Calender

Good morning friends,

I tried so hard to not open this advent calender until December 1st, but after a wonderful day I was on a high and couldn’t resist.

This 24 day advent calender costs £30, is full to the brim of beauty treats, and is available directly from the Next website.

Beauty Advent Countdown Contains

5x 10ml Next fragrances

1x 30ml face moisturiser

1x 30ml body lotion

1x 30ml body wash

1x 30ml body scrub

1x30ml hand cream
1x pink lipsick
1x mini bath fizzers
1x nail file
2x nail polish
1x pink lipgloss
1x black mascara
1x spiral hair bobble
1x full size Nx eyeshadow quad
1x full size Nx bronzer
1x eyeshadow brush
1x lip balm
1x lip scrub

The most beautiful advent calender I’ve seen. This parcel unwraps by bow, two large doors, and then 24 individual mini doors.
Perfect for a Christmas gift for any wonderful women in your life.

I couldn’t help but Swatch the eye shadow quad – with 3 Christmas shimmering shades and a stunning cranberry purple, I can’t wait to create a seasonal look.

A lipscrub is a necessity, especially in the winter. Not one that I expected to receive in a advent calender but it just makes sense.

The only item’s I won’t use in the advent calender are the hair bobble and one of the perfumes.

Of all of the advent calenders I’ve purchased/seen so far, this is the one I would recommend for the price, the quality and the contents, its ideal for someone who isn’t looking for a calender that is too make up or skincare heavy, but with the perfect balance.

Glossybox

Glossybox June 2020

Good evening friends,

I’ve had this sat in my drafts for a while, and keep on forgetting to actually finish this post.

My bad.

June’s Glossybox had me excited, this happens few and far between as I’ve found Glossybox has lost its charm, and am only signed up for one more box of my year sentance/subscription.

Any who, June’s theme was set around world of beauty.

ModelCo Liquid Metal Eyeshadow Shade Champagne RRP £15

We recieved a similar liquid shadow last December, but this liquid shadow is a staple for every make up bag.

A quick and easy glamorous look with one swoop. With buildable layering, perfect for a top up when you’re on the go.

Huda beauty Life Liner – Very Vanta RRP £18

If you know me, or actually, if you’ve ever seen a handful of pictures of me, you’ll know I love eyeliner. A smokey smudg of soft liner or a cat eye, it’s been my go to for years.

A dual eyeline is a must have, but funnily enough I’ve never managed to find one that is just right.

Both products applied exactly as intended and were long lasting.

This all sounds great doesn’t it?

Before I explain, I’ll introduce the next product.

The Vintage Cosmetic Company – Make up Removing Cloths (pack of 2) RRP £7.99

First things first. Animal print again? Why Glossybox?

Make up Removing cloths that will wipe away all traces without any soap, oils, remover? No way.

Of course I was sceptical but intrigued, but these bad boy’s proved me wrong! Running the cloth under warm water, my foundation, eyeshadow, lipstick and even mascara wiped off without having to scrub my skin too hard, or leaving me with panda eye.

The Huda liquid liner on the other hand. Well, she had other ideas.

In the above photo, all other make up and mascara had been removed but the liquid liner would not budge, not a smudge.

I scrubbed my eyelides for as long as I could bare.

I poured a little make up remover on a cotton pad. Nothing.

Third times a charm.

Eventually the remainder of the liner came off with a wet wipe. My eyelids felt violated! If you want a 48 hour eyeliner, then this ones for you!

Lasplash Cosmetics – Brush set RRP £15

I’m not 100% sure how often you should throw away make up brushes, even though I regularly clean mine, I normally dont own a set for more than 18months. Is that just me or do others get a little grossed out by them?

I wouldnt think a set from a subscription box would be that great, but these brushes are pretty impressive.

These setting and defining eye shadow brush were dense but soft enough for the perfect application.

Beautaniq Beauty – Guardian Angel Eye Mask RRP £5

My skin is awful at the moment. I have no idea if its hormones, the lack of sun and possibly stress? But I am adoring any and all skin care

These eye masks didnt stick very well, they stayed on for around 5 minutes, all whilst I sat still, trying my best to keep my face still.
Once peeling these off, my skin felt a little tacky but with no difference. How disappointing.

Overall, air am happy with the box. I have mixed feeling regarding the Huda beauty liner, and am pleasantly surprised with the make up remover cloths.

Have you tried any of these products before? And what did you think of them?
