No spend 2021

Good evening friends,

I hope the first few days of the year have been lovely so far.

Last year, for many of us, made me realise how fortunate we are.

I missed visiting family and friends, going out for meals, gigs and weekends away, but with all of the above, I didn’t miss how much money I was spending. 

Knowing you may have to be a little tighter with money next month is understandable, but that it’s a treat you’re willing to give yourself.

For 2021 I’ve decided to have a ‘No spend year’. Seems as thought the time is right.

We are saving up to buy our first home and for our wedding next year (covid willing), but also, due to Covid I was scared into saving more than ever.

What would happen if one of us lost our jobs or couldn’t work. What would we have as a back up?

Not only am I hoping to save money, but to live more sustainably.
For most beauty/toiletry products I’ve tried to buy (where I can in stock and not outrageously priced), vegan and cruelty free.

I’ve stocked up on my regular up make up, skin care, toiletries such as body wash, moisturizer, deodorant, toothpaste, etc

Most items I either bought whilst they were on sale, on 3 for 2/buy one get one free, or from previous subscription boxes.

As well as for food, where possible we’ll buy local, and to make an effort to meal plan and batch cook.
Last year I comfort ate alot, therefore ate whatever I wanted when I wanted, (where possible), and looking back, wasted alot of money.

I have clothes that are now a little snug, and am not wearing, or clothes I bought last year, but never got to because I hardly left the house – therefore have plenty of clothes to wear.

This year, I won’t be purchasing any of the following.

  • Make up or beauty products
  • Clothes/Shoes/handbags
  • Books or magazines
  • Perfume
  • Meals out
  • Take away coffees or food
  • Home or lifestyle purchases (step away from the crafts, candles and home decor)

  • Hayu £4.99 (each month)
  • Phone bill £32 (each month)
  • Optician appointments £18 (each month)
  • Roccabox & Birchbox £27 (each month together)
  • Fabfitfun – £55 (seasonal every 3 months)

I have my monthly Bathbox that my fiance kindly buys for me.
The amount of times I’ve picked up a lipstick in a similar colour, bought items of clothing for the season, treated myself to a take away, or a few quid here and there on Amazon, Wish etc.
I will still of course buy birthday gifts for loved ones, and if there’s anything I need when my birthday rolls round in April, I’ll ask for them then.
Other items such as books, I picked up a few last month from charity shops, and as for magazines, most articles can be read online.

Writing down what I pay for each month (not including living bills, rent, water, electric etc), has opened my eyes to what I want, and what I need.

There’s a few luxury items such as Hayu and the subscription boxes, but that’s a treat, something we all need to look forward to.

    I would volunteer my time to those in need, all around the world

    30 Day Challenge

    Day 13 #Bloggingwithnataliec How to…

    Good evening friends,

    This one stumped me for quite some time.

    At first I was thinking about a skill that I could pass on, maybe a tip for a new trend… nothing really seemed to fit, but then I scrolled through YouTube and a suggested Brad Mondo video popped up.

    How to ‘cut your hair at home’

    I’ve only been watching Brad Mondo for about a year now, I cant tell you how many of his reaction videos to Americas Next Top Model I’ve watched.

    I am not a trained hair dresser, nor am I recommending that you cut your own hair at home, but, if you were, this video served me well.

    I did have a little snip at my fringe/bangs as well just to frame my face, and the hair was getting too long and heavy to style in the front.

    30 Day Challenge

    Day 12 Advice to those in your profession #Bloggingwithnataliec

    Hello there friends,

    I tried my best to keep up with this fabulous challenge but life got hectic, I got tired, and run down.

    But I’m back!

    I originally started participating in this daily blog challenge July 1st-11th, I love the idea of it, so will be carrying on from 12th – 31st August.

    Day 12 (12th August)

    As I’ve said a few times before, some parts of my person life, I like to keep private.

    I don’t want to say specifically what I do for a living but my role if admin based.

    My advice is as follows –

    Ask questions.

    No ons is born into a job. Everyone needed to learn their roll at some point. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, youd rather ask and get it right, than wing in and screw up.

    Believe in yourself

    This is not only for yoir profession, but in life. As cliche as it sounds, ‘believe in yourself, because if you don’t, who will?’

    Look to the future

    Many people feel stuck in rut with their jobs, and want a career. To help you to avoid going 1 step forward and 2 steps back, find a job that you can build up, learn, progress and achieve.

    Do your research and choose a career where you can excel.

    Race at your Pace Challenge

    Good evening everyone,

    The end of September, I came across an online challenge that I hadn’t heard of before.

    ‘Race at your Pace’

    I had the option to walk, jog, or run, 10, 15, 25 or 50miles in 30 days. At the time I was feeling slightly ambitions so I signed up for completing the 50mile running challenge.

    If you have read my earlier posts you see at mention my passion fo running and that I haven’t run properly in years, and with an on going knee injury I knew it would be a test.

    Don’t get me wrong, having to psych yourself up each evening after a long day at work didn’t come easy… But after the first couple of days, I was addicted!

    I’m thrilled that I achieved my challenge with a few days to spare. I feel so much fitter, motivated, and proud of myself. 50miles complete!

    A good music playlist, and the discovery of the outstanding podcast, ‘My Favorite Murder’, (I am now a murderino) kept me distracted and helped to push me through the dark Autumn evenings.

    Late last week I received my medal, base layer and certificate.

    I’m still stunned and extremely proud if how I pushed myself, and I had a blast doing it.
