Birchbox 2021 ‘Dance to your own Rhythm’ and ‘Express yourself’ subscription boxes

Good morning friends,

If you’ve already read my Roccabox blog this morning, then apologies for repeating myself, but I feel I need to explain my blog post. I feel like I’m ripping myself apart at the moment, and don’t want my posts to look thrown together, they’re not, I just can’t manage to keep my drafts together long enough to publish.

As I said before…To save my sanity, and time to script another half a dozen drafts, I’ve decided to give a break down of what was in each of the boxes/bags, the prices and my over all rating on the box. Not exactly how I would normally review subscription boxes, but there’s no harm in mixing it up now and then

Each month, your Birchbox will either be delivered in a Box or a bag. I always keep my bags/boxes as they’re a decent size and useful for storage.

Birchbox April 2021

Good evening friends,

Today we’re playing catch up with beautiful boxes, if you’ve read my previous blogs you’ll know that I’ve been struggling the past couple of months and has taken its toll on my blog too, apologies all!

A few months late but I didn’t want to miss out on sharing my thoughts with you all. Let’s get into it, first up is Birchbox’s ‘Future is now’ April edit

Stasher silicone reliable bag RRP £12.99 (available in green, yellow and orange)
What a genius idea? This silicone bag is reusable, easy to clean, durable and great for the environment.

This multi use, airtight bag can be used as a make up bag, or a toiletries bag, or even for sandwich’s, soups and meals, as it can be stored in the fridge, freezer and is microwave safe.
I gave this to a friend as she spends alot of time at the beach – perfect to seal any snacks away when you don’t fancy a side of sand.

Green frog Botanic RRP £4.95
Argan & Rose Oil Shampoo bar

I’ve been using the Garnier shampoo bars for the last couple of months and have loved them.
I’ll admit none of them smell as good as this! The UK population alone throws away 520 millions shampoo bottles every year.

We can do better.

This vegan, plastic free sample bar gave my long locks 7 or 8 wash’s, I’d recommend and no doubt buy it again.

Algologie Hydra Replenishing Booster (Sample size recieved Full size RRP £33)
This Gelified serum hydrates skin, and is packed with hyaluronic acid and natural marine active ingredients) gentle around the eyes, this has become part of my night time routine

Huygens Organic Night Repair Oil (Recieved deluxe mini Full size RRP £31)
I feel like Alice in wonderland.

The repair oil is filled with Coconut and hazelnut oils to repair skin, lavender and rosewood oils to help regenerate and argan oil to protect the skin at night. A few drops of this and the next morning my skin was so soft and nourished, with a healthy glow

The beauty crop Fabulous Flocking Lashes RRP £9 Full size
I haven’t opened this mascara yet as have a few on the go, but a waterproof mascara enriched with argan and jojoba oil to lengthen, thicken and nourish is always, this will be at the top of the list of the next to try.

Marcelle BB Cream Golden Glow illuminator Full size RRP £25.50
I’ve tried this product a few times previously. The BB cream helps to smooth skin and even’s skin tone.

I can’t see I’ve noticed a huge different but it is still a good BB cream. Lightweight and non sticky

What did you think of April’s Birchbox/Bag? Have you tried any of the products, or tempted to purchase them?

Birchbox February 2021

Good afternoon friends,

This month we recieved another wonderful Birchbox, only a few months in and I’m extremely impressed with the products recieved.

This months 5 products came in a make up with the option to choose from the same bag in 2 colours, Blue or orange.
I opted for the bright blue – the bag is a decent size with a sturdy zip, plenty of room as a large make up bag, or wash bag for the gym, beach swimming pool or a weekend away.

Birchbox Accessories
Natural Green Jade Super Polished Gua Sha Full sized RRP £12
The first item I opened was a Facial massage tool to used over moisturizer, facial oil or cream
Depuff skin.
Similar to a jade roller, this Gua Sha can be smoothed over the skin to increasing blood flow for lymphatic drainage. Easy to clean and store in its own little pouch.
If this is one you’re not keen on, it would make a lovely gift.

Huygens Bois Rose Regenerating Face Cleanser 30ml received (RRP £22 full sized)
This face cleanser has a strong but not over powering lavender scent. The cleanser is gentle on your skin, and is Vegan and animal cruelty free.

Sensory Retreats Divine Eyes RRP £21
This warming mask can be used to unwind, or as a overnight black out mask. On the back of the mask are details of a free 85 minutes music session to accompany your relaxing evening, a nice little touch to get the most of the product.

MCoBeauty Tango Cheek & Lip Tint (Full size recieved £12)
although they are practical, I don’t often reach for a tint. The shade is orangy, not overly keen but it is easy to blend, I expect it’ll be nice to try in the summer once my skins a little sun kissed

Soaper Duper
Zesty Sicilian Lemon Body Wash
75ml received (RRP £9.99 full sized)
Cruelty free and vegan 95% Naturally derived body wash fills the room.
I’ve used the vanilla pod body wash in this brand and adore it. This is quite a thin consistency, but a little goes a long way

Once again a lovely box/bag from Birchbox.
No make up this time around, unless you found the cheek and lip tint, but as I’ve said before, at the moment, who needs it?

The weather is still all over the show and a little extra skin care is welcomed.

Birchbox ‘Countdown to Midnight’

Good morning friends Happy Monday!

I have a bit of a back log of blogs to out up, and contemplated not posting a few as they are from December, but why the heck not, it’s all relative

When I ordered my first Birchbox, I wasn’t sure if I’d receive the (late) December or given early payment for the January box.

I received the December box, ‘Countdown to midnight’

My first order was discounted and cost just £7.77, I ordered on the 26th December, and received it around 10days later, I also received 2 free gifts. What more could you ask for?

Firstly, how stunning is this emerald green bag. A decent sized bag, with gold features, this plush velveteen bag is so pretty to have sat on your vanity.

EYEKO Eye Do Liquid Eyeliner – Travel size RRP £9.00 (Full size RRP £18)
I have a few liquid liners on the go, but have heard fantastic reviews about this liner. Although I do prefer a brush style tip, this felt liner has a solid point, I can see this making a cateye easy with just one swoop

Percy & Reed Up, Up & Away Root Lift Mousse 200ml £15.00
Heat protecting root lift, giving your hair a boost and a bit of flare. Perfect for a dull hair day

LAPCOS Charcoal exfoliating and cleansing pad RRP £10
‘This dual-sided pad lifts away heavy makeup and impurities from pores while rice and soybean extracts provide hydration and anti-aging benefits’
I haven’t used this cleansing pad, Im not keen on charcoal products so will pass this onto a friend.

HAAN Hand Sanitizer – Dew of Dawn
30ml £5.95
Now, when I received a hand sanitizer 2 years ago in my Glossybox, I was far from impressed. But hey, let’s get with the times. A now, essential item for leaving the house, this sanitizer smells fresh, without being too potent, with pretty and sleek packaging.

Birchbox accessory RRP £12
Dusty Pink Eyelash Curlers
These bad boys are thick and sturdy
The past month I’ve loved curling my lashes – Even if I’m having a no make up day, curling your lashes and a bit of lip balm makes me feel pretty and put together.

Chella La Vie Eyeshadow Palette RRP £19.95
I’ve never heard of this brand, but when it comes to quads, they know what they’re doing.
This vegan and cruelty free quad is ideal. My perfect deep brown, with bit a undertone of red or grey to be seen, the most gorgeous gold, cream and transition shade.

Free gifts

Nails inc gel effect kensington passage RRP £15
No doubt this summer I’ll be reaching for the brighter pinks and oranges, and although I do like the colour and the formular, it screams 2014, along with mint green nails. Anyone else?

Lord and Berry lipstick – Shade ‘ Vogue’ RRP £17 Full size (received a mini)
A beautiful vibrant shade, suitable for most skin tones. This lipstick does smudged easily, may be better paired with a lipliner and a little translucent powder.

Overall, I couldn’t be happier with this bag.
A good variety of products, at a extremely good price, and again, the most beautiful bag.

Birchbox January 2021

Good afternoon friends,

2 years ago I bought my first Birchbox, (see links below) and man, I was not a fan.

Birchbox August 2018

Birchbox September 2018

In all honesty, I think all subscription boxes, Birchbox included were hyped up, and maybe influencers and Instagram users would post about how wonderful products were and that they were worth the money and hype.
Now I know I only paid £12.95 each a month for these boxes, but still, I was beyond unimpressed with what I unpacked.

To Birchbox’s credit, the last couple of years their boxes have dramatically improved, and I’ve been tempted more than once to sign back up. And here we are!

Each monthly box contains 5 items, that vary from deluxe mini and full sized. Boxes are £12.95 including P&P

Full sized items are available to purchase in Birchbox’s site, along with a 10% discount if that item was featured in your monthly box.

Anywho, let’s have a look at the January 2021 ‘Trust the magic of a fresh start’ edit.

First off, what a cute little box –

It’s been an emotionally draining year for all of us, I read the message on the top of the box and my eyes welled up, woman, keep it together!

I appreciate the quote on the box, a important message for this year moving forward.

Dr.Botanicals Cleansing Bar – Lemon Superfood Nourishing & Balancing RRP Full Size £7
Exfoliating your skin with this lemon oil hard soap bar. I’m not the biggest fan of a solid soap bar, but I have leaned towards them the past couple of years, and is refreshing to see it in a subscription box.

amika RESET exfoliating jelly shampooRRP £20 full size 140ml (received 20ml)
‘Rebalancing and soothing shampoo for your scalp’ I am not a fan of the thought of a expholiating shampoo, although, the small sea salt is soft and can imagine this feeling amazing. And a little massage on the scalp is great for hair growth.

This Works Morning Expert Hyaluronic Serum RRP £37 for full size 30ml (received 10ml)
This is a deluxe mini sized tube, but only a small amount is needed, very light and glides on well with a soft scent.

Lise Watier Illuminating Primer Luminous Fresh Cream-Gel
RRP £42 for full size (received 7ml)

I love this Illuminating and brightening multipurpose gel. There’s a slight shimmer, that adds a subtle glow on your skin

Marcelle Purifying Mask RRP £17.50 for full size 50ml (received 10ml)

This mask is made to be perfect for cleaning for your pores. I haven’t yet used this product, but always welcome a face mask, especially one that gives a deep cleanse.

Most of the items are deluxe minis, but I’m fine with that. They’re all a.decent size and contain enough product for a few uses.
I did expect a bit of make up, instead of it being skincare heavy, but for the winter, that’s to be expected, and I’ve received items that will benefit my skin during these cold months.

What do you think of this month’s Birchbox?

September Birchbox Review (unwanted box)

If you read my previous post you’ll know that I wasn’t overly impressed by my first Birchbox.

I hate to sound like I’m being negative, but I want to give an honest review, and not sprinkle smiles and lies over something to make it look warm and welcoming.

Carry on below to read my review on my September Birchbox.

*The last paragraph describing the issues I’ve had with Birchbox.

Caudalie Vinopure Clear Skin Purifying Toner
I received a 50ml tester. RRP £18 for 200ml

I only used this once as the scent hit me at the back of the throat. It has a strong antiseptic smell, instead of a fresh fragrance like other toners I’ve used. It is fair to say that I didn’t give this product a fair chance as I only used it once, but the scent put me off.

Beauty Protector, protect and volume.
Received a 25ml tester. RRP £22 full size (I couldn’t find the full size ml online)

I was really looking forward to trying this product, as I have long, thick, curly hair and find it difficult to find a product that will give my heavy hair a lift. Although this products smells delicious, it didn’t give me a boost at all. I think if you had a different hair type then this product could do wonders for you. It just wasn’t a good match for me but I find this common for volumising hair products.
I would like to mention that even though it said ‘no stickiness’, once I touched my hair, my hands felt very tacky, as if I had sprayed hairspray into my hands.

Marcelle, City 24H Anti-Pollution Day and Night Moisturizing Emulsion
Received 7ml tester. RRP £23 for 40ml

I firstly wore this as a night cream, and woke up with a soft fresh face.
The day after I wore it as a primer. My make up stayed in place, and moistured my skin, as my T zone can get very dry.
I wouldn’t say that it had worked any less or any better than other night/primers but it is a plus that you can easily use it as a 2-1 products with great results.

Eyeko Brow liner
Received tester size. RRP £15 for full size

Unless you have gold eyebrows (more power to you) this product isn’t going to work on you.
This colour came in the shade ‘medium’, but even if you had brown hairs, this would still not match your shade. I have black eyebrows, and it just looked rather comical on me. Not only does the colour not fit, but I had to paint it on my skin twice just so that it would show up. It’s might be because I have tanned skin, but even still, id expect a product that would show up, especially if it’s meant for my brows.
Who wants to draw around there brows over and over just for a bit of coverage?

Benefit Box O’ Powder in Galifoenia
Received tester size. RRP £25.50 full size 5g

I adore benefit, and believe that they’re a brand that always blow me away, and even though they can sometimes be on the pricier side, they all give a flawless result.
I’m up for trying new shades, especially bright ones. But this was a little too ’80’s’ fancy dress make up for me.
Perhaps if the tester had the gold shimmer as well, then the colour would of given a better glow to my face. Although the product wasn’t for me… It smelt so good that I could of eaten it.

Over all, again, I found myself unimpressed with Birchbox. I was also disappointing that I didn’t receive any of the products in full size. Not even the brow liner.
Birchbox just isn’t worth the time and money in my eyes, but it may work well and be a lovely monthly package for others.

*My issues with Birchbox
At the beginning of September, I cancelled my subscription, and received a confirmation email of the cancellation.
Unfortunately, The payment of the subscription had been taken from my bank account on September 1st, so it had all already been processed.
I emailed and asked for a refund and that I’d send the box back unopened.
They responded, and said that it would take up to 14 days for a refund once I received the box.
The box, strangly, doesn’t fit through my letter box. I mean, you would expect them to check this and alter the size so that each month it is ready there waiting for you on your door mat, rather than getting a slip through the post asking you to pick it up from your local post office. Just a tad inconvenient.
I received my box September 9th (a neighbour signed for the box for me) over a week after payment had been taken. I decided, instead of the hassel, and since it had finally arrived, that I would give Birchbox a second chance and review the box.

I am keen to try other monthly subscription boxes, either beauty, home goods or food, but am unsure of what is available. I don’t want this experience to put me off from buying other subscription boxes that would benefit me and open my eyes to new products and different ways of living.

If you have any recommendations then please do comment below.

Birchbox August Review

Happy Wednesday all,

I have always been a bit hesitant when purchases mystery boxes/monthly boxes as you can either be pleasently surprised, and received some amazing products or you can feel cheated, disappointment and a waste of money.

I can be creature of habit, so when I run out of my beauty products, I tend to purchase the same ‘go to’ items as I know what suits my skin, and that I’ll be happy with the result.

The reason why I decided to purchase a Birchbox was because I wanted to try out new products at a fraction of the price, and without reading reviews, or being influenced by what I see on the website.

When signing up to my Birchbox, I was asked about my skin care routine, what items I use the most, and what ones are important to my everyday look.

I was eager to receive my goodies not knowing what was going to arrive, and after about a week this bad boy turned up. The box contained 5 items, some full size and others a sample size, not bad for the starting price of £7.95 (including p&p)

Luseta Coconut Milk Hair Mask

The first item I tried was the hair mask, and man, it smells incredible.
As soon as I opened the box the scent hit me like a wave. I only got 2 uses out of the products as I have quite long hair. Once I had washed the conditioner out, it still left a slight smell but it felt as if I hadn’t conditioned my hair. After using a good conditioner my hair is easy to comb, but with this it just felt wet and tangled. After blow drying my hair, like alot of products the scent had faded away, and by the next morning I could hardly smell it. It wasn’t the worst product, but I wouldn’t recommend it to someone with thick hair.

Model Co Baked Highlighter

The Model Co highlighter came as a very small sample. I was sent the shade ‘Moonshine’. It is a shimmery deep pink with gold and cream blends.
I patted the highlighter with a brush but hardly anything was sticking. I was a little heavier handed with it and had to layer the product for it to show on my skin which was still very faint. The picture of the highlighter on my finger tip took me rubbing the product vigirously to get that effect. It was disappointing as it was a stunning colour.
I wasn’t impressed with this, or the fact that the full size product retails at a whopping £25.

Dr Botanicals Pomegranate Superfood Regenrating Sleeping Mask

The cream had a very faint scent, which unfortunately smelt nothing like sweet pomegranate. I used this mask on my face twice in the week, and it left my face feeling, refreshed, very soft and hydrated.
The mask was thick and silky.
I would recommend buying this cream, although it was slightly on the pricey side, retailing at £14.90 for the 30ml (full size) tube.

The Dirty Little Secret Eyeshadow Crayon

This crayon is a gorgeous creamy gold shade and came in the colour ‘Fetch’ (who else instantly thought Mean Girls?). It is an easy application and a beautiful finish but unfortunately it isn’t long wear. The packaging and the product itself looks quite cheap.
After about 2 or 3 hours the colour had almost disappeared. The colour had sunk into creases onto my eyelid which looked awful. The following day I applied the eyeshadow again but slightly thicker but got the same result.
This product retails at £10.50 which is extremely expensive for what it is, considering I’ve bought a similar and better product at poundland.

The final product (no drum roll here) is the

Polaar Velvety Sun Fluid Face and Body

In all honesty, I haven’t used this product.

I do agree that it is important to look after your skin and wear suncream, but that’s just common sense.

The cream doesn’t have that lovely, holiday smell, it almost smells as if it should be fragrance free. Not overly pleasent. I’m sure, many will agree with me that a handbag sized suncream is rather underwhelming to receive at anytime, especially in a beauty box.

I told myself when purchasing the box that regardless of what I received, that I would subscribe for 3 months. Well that didn’t happen, and yesterday I cancelled my subscription.

There’s a dozen other beauty boxes out there and I’d rather spend my month each month trying and testing out one of those.

I wasn’t overly impressed with the items in the box, especially after a bit of research, I’ve found that a few of these products have been included in Birchboxes through of the year, which means that they just rotate the stock instead of sending next and exciting products. The first box is sent at a discount price of £5 with £2.95 delivery, every month after that the box costs £10 with an additional £2.95 delivery charge.

Each box sent out will be slightly different, and everyone will have their different options, but the Birchbox just wasn’t for me.

Please let me know if you have purchased a Birchbox before and what your opinion was, and if there are any other beauty boxes that you would recommend me buying.

My first Birchbox

It’s arrived!

My first Birchbox (my first ever subscription box) is finally here.
I wanted to tear this bad boy open, but for photo purposes I decided to not.

I received 5 mini products, for the bargain starting price of £7.95 (including delivery)

I’ll use the products and write a review in a week’s time.

Here’s hoping they were worth the money and the weeks wait!
