Blogmas – Spa Day

Good afternoon friends,

Saturday was wonderful but hectic, working until 12, then rushing to the spa, then a night out, for a moment it felt like it should be, the excitement of being rushed off your feet, out and about and making the most of your weekend.

My best friend Callum and I have had a few spa days together over the past couple of years, and jumped at the chance when we saw a deal for a spa day at The Lakeside

For £90 between us, we had booked for use of the spa, a Elemis 20 minute back, next and shoulder massage each, and a afternoon tea.

£45 each for lunch, a massage and to drift away for a few hours was worth every penny

They had dressed the lakeside beautifully for Christmas. I always think it is a beautiful spa, but with the added Christmas trees and sparkling lights, it made it that little bit more wonderful.

There was a wedding that was held there at the same time, but we didn’t get a glimpse of it at all, as they were in another part of the building, but I can see the appeal.

Our spa afternoon started with lunch, a gorgeous variety of finger sandwiches, scones, fruit and plain, with clotted cream and jam, and mini cakes. Along with a shared pot of tea and a couple of pink gins, we were settled and relaxed

After lunch we got changed and relaxed in the bubble lounge before being led to our rooms for a massage.

My massause had magical hands, the warm oil and relaxing music had me struggling to stay awake. It was incredible

After our massages we spent some time in the outdoor hot tub, indoor jacuzzi, pool, and steam room, all whilst having a good old catch up.

I was a little skeptical at first, due to Covid, but there were limited people in each area, booking times were spaced out, and the spa looked clean and felt safe.

I am thankful for a escape, with a friend, even if it was just for a few hours

Blogmas – Christmas Jumper Day 2020

Good afternoon friends,

Last Friday, 11th December was Christmas Jumper Day.

(Excuse the tired eyes in the picture)

Each year, whether at school, work, or just at home, the date rolls round where everyone pulls out their Christmas Jumper.

This day isn’t just about getting into the Christmas spirit – alot of people don’t know the reason behind Christmas Jumper Day, and why we donate our £2’s each year.

For the past 8 years, Save the Children Cause ask for donations, and have raised an incredible £2.2 billion dollars.

Although the day has passed, you can still hold your own Christmas Jumper day, with family, friends, work or by zoom.

You can wear a Christmas jumper, T shirt, tie or make your own? (And if it looks awful, then you can label it a ugly Christmas jumper??)

Whatever you do, and how ever you much you can donate, it’s the thought that counts.

I forgot to donate at work, instead donated online, quick, easy, and not bombarded with follow up questions.

‘EMERGENCIES

We make sure we can be there to help when children need us most. We have appeals running for Coronavirus, as well as in Yemen and Syria. Our response to the Beirut explosion is set up to provide support immediately through money raised for our emergency fund (read more about the fund here). Whether children are at risk due to conflict or natural disasters, we make sure we’re there providing all we can to ease their suffering and help them to recover.
Take a look at the work we did with donations for our Cyclone Idai appeal.

AROUND THE WORLD

Last year, the Save the Children movement operated in 117 countries around the world, providing unique care and attention to each child we encounter based on their specific needs.
Whether that is vaccinating children in remote regions, providing anti-biotics for Pneumonia treatment, setting up temporary learning centres after natural disasters strike, or working to bring British children home from Syria, we do all we can to support them.

OUR UK WORK

We are hugely proud of the work we have done in the UK, but also recognise we have a long way to go.
We work in homes, nurseries, schools and communities to narrow the gap between children living in poverty and their better off classmates.
When COVID-19 hit, UK children’s lives turned upside down. To help, we started an Emergency Grant for families worst affected. Already, the grant has helped over 9,000 families. But there’s more to do. ‘

To help the cause, as well as wearing your jumper and donating, you can Can volunteer, and as always, raising awareness and spreading the message is extremely important, to keep this incredibly charity going.

Blogmas – What’s in my bag

Good afternoon friends,

Who else fell down the ‘What’s in my bag’ YouTube rabbit hole?
I lost hours!

I remember the 1st one I ever watched was by Nicole Guerriero – What’s in my bag
This was one of the few early, honest and realistic videos. As soon as it blew up and became a trend, people were stuffing all sorts in their bags, mostly to look quirky, in style, or show off expensive items or endorsement deals.

Recently I stumbled across Jane Fonda’s What’s in my bag, and binged on these videos all over again.

Here’s my what’s in my bag.

The bag
Paul Costello TK Maxx £70
Black leather medium sized bag (apologies I don’t remember the name)
3 internal pockets, 1 of which is a zip pocket, with a long detachable strap
I’ve had this bag a few years now, and is my everyday, go to.

The only item missing from my bag is my mini 2020 diary, which I threw out a couple of months ago.
It was of no use to me, at the stars of the year, I wrote events, then month by month crossed threw them as they never happened.

Bessie Purse £15 Tk Maxx

Essentials for my purse are my bank card, maybe a bit of cash, stamps, coffee card, loyalty cards, and my friendship token from my friend Sunny

Who needs 2 mirrors? I do.
I’ve had this mirror gifted again from my friend Sunny for years, and have never noticed the typing error.

‘Life is, is a, catwalk’. Still love it though!
And the Mickey is a compact mirror and brush.

Music to my ears
Again, 2 pairs of headphones.
I am constantly listening to podcasts and music.
Sometimes it’s just quicker and easier to plug in headphones, also, there have been more times than I can count that I’ve left a pair at home, but luckily I have a spare packed.

Roxy Gloves

These were a gift last year, I love how crisp it’s been the past couple of weeks. I’ve worn these almost everyday.

Let’s keep it clean people

  • Cucumber and mint anti bacterial gel
  • Pocket tissues
  • Deep cleansing wipes

Toiletries bag of essentials

I couldn’t even tell you the brand, I’ve had this mini bag for years. I used to carry my make up bag, which was bulky, and have other toiletries loose, but then I could never find them.

Contents

  • Sanitary pads, because you never know
  • Paracetamol
  • Wild cherry Magic – one of my favourite scents, non greasy and moisturising
  • Seriously strong mints (always mints over gum)
  • Pen

  • M&S New York mini perfume
  • NYX Abu Dhabi, my go to matte lip cream
  • Soap and Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Mini in the shade, ‘Bare Enough’
  • Minnie mouse Lip balm
  • Mini tweezers
  • Hair ties
  • Bobby pins
  • Nail file

Masontops Glass Water Bottle

Still not jam packed, room for more
I’m pretty organised when it comes to my handbag, when I change from one bag to another, I will open one bag, then flip my current one and just pour in the contents.

What’s in your bag?

Blogmas – make your own wax melts

Good morning friends,

For years I have thrown away glass jarred candles with tons of wax still intact.

The other day, I saw a video online of someone heating the jar, melting the wax, and creating their own layered candle. To be honest, that sounded like a great idea, although, I don’t want to buy wicks as I don’t think I’ll use them as often, and will just go round in circles with there always being left over wax.

Instead, I thought I’d make my own style ‘wax melts’

All you need is –

Near to empty candles

1 fork

1 saucepan (filled with boiling water)

Small containers/ice trays – (can be purchased in multipacks from Poundland/B&M)

I have a few candles of warm winter and floral scents that I’m planning to melt down.

Simply fill a small saucepan half way with boiling water and place the candle on a medium heat for 10 minutes

Every few minutes, I carefully broke up the wax with a fork and stirred.

Once melted, I poured the wax into the ice cube trays and small tubs.

For the winter scents, I filled the small tubs half way, and layered them with both scents.

To add a little something extra, I sprinkled glitter into the wax as it was cooling.

After about 30 minutes, the melts easily popped out of the tubs.

These are quick and easy to make, and can be kept for yourself or given as a gift at Christmas.

I know that to buy professionally made wax melts aren’t too expensive, but why not give this a go if you have the resourses at home?

Blogmas – The Body Shop Sumptuous cleansing butter review

Good evening friends,

I have been trying to cut down on disposable items such a make up wipes.

Although I do use a make up remover with my bamboo reusable pads, depending on the make up, sometimes cotton pads and make up wipes are needed.

Last month I bought a new make up remover after it being recommended by a friend.

The Body Shop Camomile range offers products that are gentle to sensitive skin.

This Vegan and cruelty free balm comes in a 90ml tin for £11. That may seem expensive, but the tub is such a good shape and size, you can swipe every last bit without there being any waste.

I thought best to demonstrate on a full face of make up.

‘Apply to a dry face, and massage into the skin, then remove with a warm wet flannel’

I used too much balm, as a little goes a long way. The balm easily removed my mascara, I gently rubbed a little balm on my lashes, and wiped away.

The balm has a light fresh scent and left my skin feeling soft, smooth and refreshed. I was skeptical and didn’t think a balm would remove make up, especially mascara, but it worked wonders.

This is a perfect gift for someone who is a make up lover, it may not seem like the most obvious or exciting gift, but this is a new staple for my skin routine, and wish I’d been introduced to this earlier.

What do you think of the balm, and have you used one before?

Blogmas – W7 Advent Calender – Tried and tested Make up review

Good evening friends,

A few days ago I posted the contents of the W7 Advent Calender.

The calender contained a variety of shades of lip and eye products, which I created 3 seasonal looks with.

Apart from foundation, concealer and an eyebrow pencil, all other products were taken from the calender.

To create my 3 looks, I used the items below –

  • Mini Big Lash Mascara (Black)
  • Mega Matte Lip Liner Red, Pink
  • King Kohl Eyeliner Black, Brown and Blue
  • Mini Mega Matte
  • Mini Glowcomotion Highlighter
  • Mini Honolulu Bronzer
  • Mini Cheeky Flusher
  • Mini Banana Dreams
  • Mini Beam Me Up Illuminator
  • Loose Glitter Pigment Pots Super Silver, Gilded Gold and Pretty Pink

First look – Gold glitter, nude lips and a navy eye liner.

This is a quick and easy, subtle soft glam look for the season

Second look – Pink glitter, pink lips, cheeky fluster blush.

A strong but pretty pink look, a little different for Christmas. Pinks are normally saved for spring/summer, but I love the thought of a warm pink look at winter.

Look three – Classic Christmas look, silver glitter, red lips and black liner.

This is the most striking, and and common Christmas make up. I can’t say I was massively keen on the thought of silver glitter eyes, but once I added the red lip, I loved it!

To my surprise, I think the silver and red look may be my favourite.

I was impressed with all of the products used, apart from the eye liners.

For each look I used a different eye liner, but they didn’t show up well, and were hard, without being able to easily smudge.

I was unsure if the glitter was intended for the eyes, could possibly be used for your nails? It doesn’t specify what to use them for and if you should or shouldn’t put these on your eyes or skin, but I had tested on my hand and there was no irritation.

I dabbed a bit of the the ‘bean me up illuminator’ on my eye lids before applying the glitter to give a bit of tac.

I love the end result, but there was so much fall out…Glitter everywhere! All over my face, body, clothes, hair, desk and carpet.

It’s to be expected at Christmas I guess?

Which was your favourite look?

Blogmas – Next Advent calender, tried and tested make up review

Good evening friends,

Today I tried out a few of the contents from my Next Beauty Advent calender.

The items I used

  • 1x pink lipsick
  • 1x pink lipgloss
  • 1x black full size Nx eyeshadow quad
  • 1x full size Nx bronzer
  • 1x eyeshadow brush
  • 1x lip balm
  • 1x full size Nx eyeshadow quad
  • 1x full size Nx bronzer
  • 1x eyeshadow brush
  • 1x lip balm
  • 1x lip scrub
  • 1x 30ml face moisturiser

From the eyeshadow quad, 2 shimmery gold shades, as always, caught my eye first. I thought I’d go for a different look and play around with a pink and purple eyeshadows.

I never sway towards a pink/purple make up look; 1 I love a black/brown/gold smokey eye (all day everyday), and 2, I always think if a purple eye isn’t done properly, you risk the chance of looking as though you’ve gotten a bruised eye.

I used the face moisturizer as a primer, it’s worked well. It is thinner and more of a lotion than a moisturizer, but either way I was happy with it, and my make up glided on well after.

The lip scrub was a good consistency, to most people’s taste I expect, although I do prefer mine to be a little grittier to really work the lips.

The lip balm was pretty standard, but a nice application, and non greasy.

The shimmery lipstick was soft and sheer, whilst the gloss was thick and bright giving it that pow, without being sticky or over the top.

The mascara was pretty standard but decent. I gave my lashes two coats as I normally would and was happy with the outcome.

The Highlight is striking in the pan, but doesn’t show overly well on the skin. I think this is more so down to my lack of skills with highlighter, I’m not 100% the exact place to put it and how heavy handed. It would however look incredible as a eyeshadow.

Over all I was extremely happy with the products, especially where you have almost a full face of make up

Blogmas – Superdrug Black Friday Haul

Good evening friends,

The week leading up to Black Friday, I received dozens of emails, pop ups and Instagram posts with deals. I couldn’t avoid it.

I had no intention to spend, I was staying strong. Then the thought crept in, I could buy now, and use in the future?

A few months ago I decided to have a spend free month, that didn’t go as plan, instead, I’ve decided to have a No spend 2021 (upcoming blog to explain), and to, where possible use only cruelty free products.

In order to top up on the basics and not get carried away, I looked through my make up drawers to check what products I was low on/what is due to expire in the next couple of months, and made a list

Here’s what I bought –

Superdrug Studio London Natural Eyeshadow Palette
Original Price: £6.00/Sale price: £3.00

Perfect shade 12 pan palette for all seasons, night and day.

Collection Lasting Colour Lipstick

Rose Wood 21, Original Price: £2.39/Sale price £1.66

I was originally suckered in my the name, any PLL fans here? But the shade is just beautiful, creamy and long lasting.

B. Flawless Matte Foundation W4 & N4
Original Price: £2.50 each/ Sale price £1.73 each

I purchased these in 2 shades as I’m a little lighter in the winter months, and for that price, why not take your pick.

e.l.f. Expert Liquid Liner Jet Black
Original Price: £3.00/sale price £2.08

I haven’t tried this liquid liner before, but the reviews were fantastic, and is one of the most inexpensive liquid liners I’ve seen.

Revolution Conceal and Define Concealer Original Price: £3.99/ sale price £2.76

I’ve never seen such a big dofer applicator for a concealer, this will give much better coverage and less waste as one or two swoops will do the job.

Revolution Pro Microblading Precision Eyebrow Pencil Choc Original Price £3.99 /Sale price £2.76

I haven’t tried the Revolution brow pencil before, but it’s less than half the price of my normal eyebrow pencil, and almost the same shade.

Revolution Darling 122 & Heart race 113 Crème Lip & Hustle 119 Crème Lip
Original Price: £3.20 each/Sale price £2.22 each

I’m a sucker for nude and pink shades, who isn’t? All 3 are beautiful, but Hustle is a great show for NYX Abu Dhabi.

Superdrug’s own brand products are now proudly cruelty free.

I did find some absolutly great deals with other brands, but whilst googling if they were cruelty free, the animal testing pictures that popped up, broke my heart and I couldn’t bring myself to pick up a bargain for the expense of an animal.

Subtotal exc. savings£30.97
Promotional Savings- £8.59
Total inc. savings & redemptions £22.38

1×12 pan eyeshadow palette
1xEye brow pencil
1xLiquid liner
2xFoundations
1xConcealer
1xLip stick
3xLip cremes

Almost a full face of make up for under £23, not bad going at all.

What did you buy in the Black Friday sales?

Blogmas – Bathbox November 2020

Good evening friends,

Since April I’ve received the Bathbox Subscription box.
Each month is tied to a theme and contains 3 bath bombs, bath salts and a relaxing treat.
This treat can be soaps, candles, cleansers, but never fail to excite me.

This month is Snow White themed, I didn’t expect it, but what a wonderful idea

Snow White bomb RRP 3.75

The sparkling white bath bomb is fresh linen scented, and big enough to crumble into your bath bit by bit, or use it all in one go for one luxurious bath

Castle bomb RRP £3.75

This bomb was packaged in a white box with a picture of the castle, as soon as you open it, the sweet Peacan pie scent hits you. Such a pretty bathbomb, and again, a decent size.

Poison apple RRP  £3.75

What I first opened it I thought I was broken, to then find this Sweet Apple scented bomb comes in 2 parts how clever is that?

Pedi bomb treat bag RRP £2.50

Yes I squealed a little bit, how beautiful is this little blue bag? It contains a pedi bomb that can be added to warm water to relax and sooth your feet, what a lovely and refreshing idea. The bag is gorgeous, I have no idea what I’d put it in but I may just hang it on my dressing table for display

Spellbound bath salts RRP £3.50

These bath salts with an added fizz smell delightful, add a sprinkle, or the whole bag for a calming bath

Each box I say, ‘this is my favourite
month’, because they just on keep getting better and better. I’ve loved every single product I’ve received this year, which is a rare statement for anyone to say about a subscription box, but honestly, I couldn’t recommend it enough!
